i always hated the fucking memes about tom nook being a money obsessed capitalist that’s only out to drown you in debt the rest of your life or whatever

do y’all have no idea how a mortgage works or something? the guy basically approves you for one right on the spot when anyone else woulda turned your broke ass away and been like “sorry! no significant down payment, no source of income, bad/no credit, no house!” and then he lets you run a few errands for his shop and pays you for it to give you a head start and help you adjust to your new setting. he didn’t have to do that
and you’re basically living in a shack at the start, he knows this, and approves you for home improvement loans (when, again, anyone else would have said no) to help turn your shitty one room shack into a beautiful, spacious home. again, didn’t have to do that

and to top it all off he lets you pay it off whenever you want! no steep monthly payments, no interest, no risk of losing everything if you can’t make your payments regularly. he can’t do any of this for free obviously, but is generous and trusts you enough to allow you to pay at your leisure

tom nook is a sweetheart, you guys are just ungrateful little shits who will be in for a very rude awakening irl if/when you’re looking to buy a house, renting, or really anything that requires you to take out a loan
